The aim of the Unit is to help you develop the knowledge and skills necessary for effective communication in a Health or Social Care setting. The objectives of the unit are to introduce the concept of communication and the variety of forms communication may take.

You will identify and explain barriers to communication in the workplace setting and consider ways of overcoming such difficulties. You will also describe the role of the worker in promoting effective communication and have the opportunity to enhance your own communication skills.

This unit is designed to help you develop an understanding of challenging behaviour and how to respond to it appropriately in a home care setting. It also raises awareness of the forms of abuse that can be experienced by clients and how to deal with suspected abuse in the home care setting.
