HNC Fashion Make-up - start date Aug 2019

 

The unit purpose is to develop the underpinning knowledge and essential make-up skills which form the basis of all make-up applications. Learners will research the facial structures, skin characteristics, colour correction and make-up products, tools and equipment which will enable them to apply this knowledge when planning and performing make-up looks on a range of categories for female and male models. This unit would be relevant to the learner following a career in fashion make-up or make-up artistry. The unit may also be delivered as a stand-alone unit.

The unit is a mandatory unit within the HNC Fashion Make-up and HNC/HND Make-up Artistry.

The unit is designed to enable learners to develop knowledge and skills required to perform current fashion and classic make-up looks. Learners will research current fashion make-up trends and classic make-up looks from the 20th Century which will enable them to apply this knowledge when planning and performing these make-up looks on models. This unit is a mandatory unit within the HNC Fashion Make-up.


This unit would be relevant to the learner following a career in fashion make-up or make-up artistry.

The purpose of this unit is to provide learners with the opportunity to develop fundamental skills in hairstyling, which will enable them to provide current fashion and dressed up hairstyles to compliment the make-up look when working in the fashion make-up industry.

This unit is a mandatory unit within the HNC Fashion Make-up.

The unit is designed to enable learners to design, plan and perform make-up and hairstyling
for a fashion/company brand photoshoot incorporating both male and female models.

This unit is a mandatory unit within the HNC Fashion Make-up group award.

This unit is designed to enable Learners to develop the knowledge and skills necessary when presenting and promoting make-up looks to individuals, live audiences or through social media. It is recommended that Learners have achieved knowledge and skills in a variety of practical units within in the qualification and are competent in a variety of make-up applications prior to undertaking this unit.

This unit is a mandatory unit within the HNC Fashion Make-up Award.

This unit is designed to give recognition for a range of work experience activities that learners may complete as part of a Higher National programme. It is intended for learners who will benefit from a flexible approach where a work placement opportunity is tailored to individual needs and is part of their course of study and/or current employment needs. The work placement should take into account any individual prior learning and aim to develop work related skills. The aim of the unit is to develop the necessary essential workplace skills and experience to consider appropriate career development opportunities. The unit aims to enhance existing or new employment prospects and where possible to support progression into paid employment.

The unit is designed to enable learners to develop an understanding of current trends in
runway and editorial make-up looks to include make-up, hairstyling and finishing techniques
for the total look.

This unit is suitable for learners following a career in the fashion make-up
industry.

This graded unit is designed to provide evidence that the learner has achieved the following principal aims of the HNC in Fashion Make-up Group Award, demonstrating that they can:

  • apply sound technical knowledge together with practical expertise in all aspects of make-up, enabling them to work confidently and competently within the fashion make-up industry
  • develop competencies in a range of specialised areas
  • develop organisational, promotional and interpersonal skills when dealing with people
  • adopt an innovative and creative approach to their work
  • develop an awareness and use of transferable skills
  • analyse problems, plan solutions and be responsive to the challenges posed by changes to the fashion make-up industry
  • produce a professional portfolio of examples of their work
  • prepare learners for progression to further study in the fashion make-up industry

Learners will have the opportunity to research current eyebrow trends using a variety of sources and will learn practical skills in eyebrow styling and design by tinting, colouring and shaping the eyebrows. This unit will give Learners an opportunity to gain a comprehensive knowledge of the subject including identifying consultation, contra-indications, general effects and maintenance requirements of eyebrow treatments as well as identifying face shapes and eyebrow shapes. Emphasis will be placed on client objectives, selection and use of correct products and equipment throughout.


Learners will participate in a number of activities which will help them to develop the skills contained within this unit. They will also evaluate their own performance in relation to practical skills learned.


This unit is suitable for those who have no previous qualifications or experience.

Learners will have the opportunity to research current eye enhancements using a variety of sources and will learn practical skills in eyelash tinting and the application of semi- permanent single lash treatment.
This unit will give learners an opportunity to gain a comprehensive knowledge of the subject including identifying contra-indications, general effects and maintenance requirements of eye lash enhancements. Emphasis will be placed on the selection and use of correct products and equipment throughout.

Learners will participate in a number of activities which will help them to develop the skills contained within this unit. They will also evaluate their own performance in relation to practical skills learned.

This unit is suitable for those who have no previous qualifications or experience.
